Did you know that homosexuality was a psychiatric diagnosis until the 70's?

When in the wake of the flower-power movement it was removed as a diagnosis because of political pressure and no medical reasons.

It makes me think..... the more people try to convince and scream it's normal, is it because they are trying in vain to convince themselves it is while deep down they know it's not?

Did you know that homosexuality was a psychiatric diagnosis until the 70's?
The way I look at it it's not natural. Opposites attract right? Such as magnets. There is no way the two neg or pos sides will attract right? If you look in nature as well I never EVER saw 2 of the same sex animal having sex. People try to say oh it happens but it never does.

In globally accepted and "wanted" for people to be immoral. If you are a Christian or Jew you are persucuted. WHY? In China if you have a Bible you are killed. BUT! It's ok to be a beleived in Islam. INFACT it's demanded you respect these people. Why? Evil will always protect evil. If you are good then you are "insane".
Reply:im sure gay people know more about themselves than yourself and other christians. Also, it was a psychiatric diagnosis in the 70's (if it was) because of the strong christian brainwashing that has plagued society for centuries. christians CANNOT have it as something that a person is born with, it goes against their religion like many other truths in reality. There has also never been any reliable evidence that jesus ever existed. the church spent many years fabricating 'proofs' just like their miracles, weeping statues and all.

prior to the birth of christianity, homosexuality was accepted in many places. And considered a sign of strong spirituality to many. And thats prior to 0 BC
Reply:wrong category
Reply:If this is your idea of thinking you need to go back to kindergarten and start again.
Reply:It doesn't matter what the sin is.

When one chooses to commit it, they will find any excuse to justify their actions.
Reply:From "political pressure" during the Early 70's ?

Don't know anything about history and homosexuals do you?

It had NOTHING to do with "political pressure" for if it did, given the homophobia of the time It would STILL be classified as a mental illness.

You people will go to the ends of the earth to spread absolute LIES won't you?
Reply:no, i didn't. thanks for the info. :D
Reply:Did you know the world was flat until less than a century ago? Did you know that Pluto was an actual planet until a week ago? Di dyou know thatthe Earth was the centre of the Universe until just about a century ago? The list goes on... information expands... and grows

Whats your point? If going back to pre-70s information means perfect knowledge then probably we need to go back to computers that fill a whole room instead of using these modern table tops, lap tops or palm tops.

Computers are not normal, since they do not grow on trees, are not born of any creature, neither do they fall from the sky...
Reply:Who cares??? It's is still an abomination and goes against God.
Reply:I believe you misunderstand why it was removed. It was a Psychological diagnosis, listed as an illness or disorder in the

DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statical Manual of Mental Disorders, Vol 4, which is the new edition). There were quite few changes in the DSM-IV because of years of research, social changes, ect.

As far as it being "normal", it's normal for them. You can't change it, no matter how hard you try. And please don't even bother to mention the "Christian Counseling" and trying to turn gay people straight. It doesn't work, and has lead to many suicides of teenagers.
Reply:Schizophrenia was considered demon possession until not to long ago. I can't help but pity anyone who uses flawed data to re-enforce their prejudices.
Reply:TRUE
Reply:I agree with you. But think about this. Should we condemn a person for having a psychological illness, or should we look at it from a medical point of view? Would you look down on a person with schizophrenia just because he had it?
Reply:yeh, Carl, sure, that's a realy riveting argument u have there.

I was gonna start with "Hi bigot!"

PS:nevermind next time.
Reply:Did you know that stoning unruly children was the accepted norm until people became civilized? When in the wake of the liberal let's - get - smart educational movement it was removed as a fit punishment because of political pressure and not moral reasons. It makes me think... the more people try to convince and scream it's normal not to stone one's rebellious children to death, it is because they are trying in vain to convince themselves it is while deep down they know it's not?
Reply:i'm sure there are (visually noticable on an mri) differences in the brain between gays and straights. (supporting the idea that gays are born like that) hey, you know there are also differences (that appear on an mri) in the brain between schizos and people who aren't psychotic. this might suggest why it was treated as a mental disorder. i'd like to know, if this is the case, why society decided schizophrenia absolutely needed to be treated (which it does, don't get me wrong, i'm not a scientologist) while homosexuality didn't. with actual visible differences in brain function, how can it be deemed normal?
Reply:so true
Reply:I learned in college psych classes that there are significant differences in a certain area of the brain between gays and straights... which could support the theory that you are "born" gay and don't "choose" to be gay.

I'm not saying that's necessarily what I think, just what the classes taught...
Reply:If a bunch of depressives or schizophrenics were to have organized to get their disease removed from the DSM (diagnostic manual), do you think the American Psychological Association would have listened? I for one sincerely doubt it. No, it was that the APA saw that the label of sickness hurt gay people far more than their gayness did.

Also, most LGBT people understand that it's not "normal", in the sense that most people are straight, always have been, and always will be. However, our minority status is as benign, and should affect the rest of the world as little, as blue eyes or left-handedness.

PS to Naddo--one of my cats is bisexual, too.
Reply:THANK YOU!!!
