Does anyone recognise this Film? I would love to know the title. I have been looking for it for years!?

I remember seeing it on TV Maybe about 10 or 15 years ago. I Think it is 70's or possibly 80's.

The film is set in (I think a Log Cabin) I seem to remember it being snowy outside.

The premise of the film is that a couple meet at the cabin on the same date every year. They conduct an affair by meeting up at the same place on the same dates each year.

The film spans through the decades so you see them in the various fashions of the day. I remember a scene where the woman is dressed as a 60's Flower Power Hippy.

From my recollection the film is only set in the cabin, so you only get to know what has been happening in their respective lives through the conversations they have with each other.

I cannot remeber there being any other characters in the film and I cannot remember how it ends.

I think it is fairly lighthearted (perhaps a comedy) not sure. Does Anyone recognise it??

The film is called Same Time Next Year. It stars Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn (I think).

How did Cat Stevens come to Islam ?

All I have to say is all what you know already, to confirm what you already know, the message of the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) as given by God - the Religion of Truth. As human beings we are given a consciousness and a duty that has placed us at the top of creation. Man is created to be God's deputy on earth, and it is important to realize the obligation to rid ourselves of all illusions and to make our lives a preparation for the next life. Anybody who misses this chance is not likely to be given another, to be brought back again and again, because it says in Qur'an Majeed that when man is brought to account, he will say, {O Lord, send us back and give us another chance} The Lord will say, {If I send you back you will do the same}

MY EARLY RELIGIOUS UPBRINGING

I was brought up in the modern world of all the luxury and the high life of show business. I was born in a Christian home, but we know that every child is born in his original nature - it is only his parents that turn him to this or that religion. I was given this religion (Christianity) and thought this way. I was taught that God exists, but there was no direct contact with God, so we had to make contact with Him through Jesus - he was in fact the door to God. This was more or less accepted by me, but I did not swallow it all.

I looked at some of the statues of Jesus; they were just stones with no life. And when they said that God is three, I was puzzled even more but could not argue. I more or less believed it, because I had to have respect for the faith of my parents.

POP STAR

Gradually I became alienated from this religious upbringing. I started making music. I wanted to be a big star. All those things I saw in the films and on the media took hold of me, and perhaps I thought this was my God, the goal of making money. I had an uncle who had a beautiful car. "Well," I said, "he has it made. He has a lot of money." The people around me influenced me to think that this was it; this world was their God.

I decided then that this was the life for me; to make a lot of money, have a 'great life.' Now my examples were the pop stars. I started making songs, but deep down I had a feeling for humanity, a feeling that if I became rich I would help the needy. (It says in the Qur'an, we make a promise, but when we make something, we want to hold onto it and become greedy.)

So what happened was that I became very famous. I was still a teenager, my name and photo were splashed in all the media. They made me larger than life, so I wanted to live larger than life and the only way to do that was to be intoxicated (with liquor and drugs).

IN HOSPITAL

After a year of financial success and 'high' living, I became very ill, contracted TB and had to be hospitalized. It was then that I started to think: What was to happen to me? Was I just a body, and my goal in life was merely to satisfy this body? I realized now that this calamity was a blessing given to me by Allah, a chance to open my eyes - "Why am I here? Why am I in bed?" - and I started looking for some of the answers. At that time there was great interest in the Eastern mysticism. I began reading, and the first thing I began to become aware of was death, and that the soul moves on; it does not stop. I felt I was taking the road to bliss and high accomplishment. I started meditating and even became a vegetarian. I now believed in 'peace and flower power,' and this was the general trend. But what I did believe in particular was that I was not just a body. This awareness came to me at the hospital.

One day when I was walking and I was caught in the rain, I began running to the shelter and then I realized, 'Wait a minute, my body is getting wet, my body is telling me I am getting wet.' This made me think of a saying that the body is like a donkey, and it has to be trained where it has to go. Otherwise, the donkey will lead you where it wants to go.

Then I realized I had a will, a God-given gift: follow the will of God. I was fascinated by the new termino- logy I was learning in the Eastern religion. By now I was fed up with Christianity. I started making music again and this time I started reflecting my own thoughts. I remember the lyric of one of my songs. It goes like this: "I wish I knew, I wish I knew what makes the Heaven, what makes the Hell. Do I get to know You in my bed or some dusty cell while others reach the big hotel?" and I knew I was on the Path.

I also wrote another song, "The Way to Find God Out." I became even more famous in the world of music. I really had a difficult time because I was getting rich and famous, and at the same time, I was sincerely searching for the Truth. Then I came to a stage where I decided that Buddhism is all right and noble, but I was not ready to leave the world. I was too attached to the world and was not prepared to become a monk and to isolate myself from society.

I tried Zen and Ching, numerology, tarot cards and astrology. I tried to look back into the Bible and could not find anything. At this time I did not know anything about Islam, and then, what I regarded as a miracle occurred. My brother had visited the mosque in Jerusalem and was greatly impressed that while on the one hand it throbbed with life (unlike the churches and synagogues which were empty), on the other hand, an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity prevailed.

THE QUR'AN

When he came to London he brought back a translation of the Qur'an, which he gave to me. He did not become a Muslim, but he felt something in this religion, and thought I might find something in it also.

And when I received the book, a guidance that would explain everything to me - who I was; what was the purpose of life; what was the reality and what would be the reality; and where I came from - I realized that this was the true religion; religion not in the sense the West understands it, not the type for only your old age. In the West, whoever wishes to embrace a religion and make it his only way of life is deemed a fanatic. I was not a fanatic, I was at first confused between the body and the soul. Then I realized that the body and soul are not apart and you don't have to go to the mountain to be religious. We must follow the will of God. Then we can rise higher than the angels. The first thing I wanted to do now was to be a Muslim.

I realized that everything belongs to God, that slumber does not overtake Him. He created everything. At this point I began to lose the pride in me, because hereto I had thought the reason I was here was because of my own greatness. But I realized that I did not create myself, and the whole purpose of my being here was to submit to the teaching that has been perfected by the religion we know as Al-Islam. At this point I started discovering my faith. I felt I was a Muslim. On reading the Qur'an, I now realized that all the Prophets sent by God brought the same message. Why then were the Jews and Christians different? I know now how the Jews did not accept Jesus as the Messiah and that they had changed His Word. Even the Christians misunderstand God's Word and called Jesus the son of God. Everything made so much sense. This is the beauty of the Qur'an; it asks you to reflect and reason, and not to worship the sun or moon but the One Who has created everything. The Qur'an asks man to reflect upon the sun and moon and God's creation in general. Do you realize how different the sun is from the moon? They are at varying distances from the earth, yet appear the same size to us; at times one seems to overlap the other.

Even when many of the astronauts go to space, they see the insignificant size of the earth and vastness of space. They become very religious, because they have seen the Signs of Allah.

When I read the Qur'an further, it talked about prayer, kindness and charity. I was not a Muslim yet, but I felt that the only answer for me was the Qur'an, and God had sent it to me, and I kept it a secret. But the Qur'an also speaks on different l I began to understand it on anothlevel, where the Qur'an says, {Those who believe do not take disbelievers for friends and the believers are brothers} Thus at this point I wished to meet my Muslim brothers.

CONVERSION

Then I decided to journey to Jerusalem (as my brother had done). At Jerusalem, I went to the mosque and sat down. A man asked me what I wanted. I told him I was a Muslim. He asked what was my name. I told him, "Stevens." He was confused. I then joined the prayer, though not so successfully. Back in London, I met a sister called Nafisa. I told her I wanted to embrace Islam and she directed me to the New Regent Mosque. This was in 1977, about one and a half years after I received the Qur'an.

Now I realized that I must get rid of my pride, get rid of Iblis, and face one direction. So on a Friday, after Jumma' I went to the Imam and declared my faith (the Kalima) at this hands. You have before you someone who had achieved fame and fortune. But guidance was something that eluded me, no matter how hard I tried, until I was shown the Qur'an. Now I realize I can get in direct contact with God, unlike Christianity or any other religion. As one Hindu lady told me, "You don't understand the Hindus. We believe in one God; we use these objects (idols) to merely concentrate." What she was saying was that in order to reach God, one has to create associates, that are idols for the purpose. But Islam removes all these barriers. The only thing that moves the believers from the disbelievers is the salat. This is the process of purification.

Finally I wish to say that everything I do is for the pleasure of Allah and pray that you gain some inspirations from my experiences. Furthermore, I would like to stress that I did not come into contact with any

Muslim before I embraced Islam. I read the Qur'an first and realized that no person is perfect. Islam is perfect, and if we imitate the conduct of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) we will be successful. May Allah give us guidance to follow the path of the ummah of Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). Ameen!

Is popular culture an indication of the decline of christianity?

During the 60's flower power era, it seems just about everyone except Lennon was singing songs about walking with Jesus. Even Black Sabbath had some christian themes in their early works.

Now, bands that right religious music tend to be grouped with other christian bands.

Sure, there's the odd song about Jesus these days, but it certainly dosn't seem to be as prominent as it once was.

Is this an indicator that christianity is losing it's influence on modern society?

Is popular culture an indication of the decline of christianity?
This is really funny, because I can remember well that back in the 60's and 70's, people said the same thing.

Don't believe it.
Reply:No it's a barometer of decaying morality.
Reply:I don't think so...

However,

Almost everyone I know falls into two categories: people who claim to be saved, or people who hate those people....

The cultures have become so polarized that if you are one group...you don't want to be associated with the other...
Reply:Or maybe it is an indication of the banality of western secularism and the decadent "fin de siecle" of modernity itself?
Reply:yeah Lennon's bout with christianity took place in the 70's.

Zepplin didn't have any xian songs.
Reply:In the 60s and 70s, it gave the bands street cred because they were going on bingers while writing the Jesus songs.
Reply:No. Popular culture has always existed. It changes over time.

Why do women want the respect and power of a man, but not as much work as a man?

I'm forever hearing women complain about being treated with less respect than men. Women complain that they don't have the power men get to have in the business place and whatnot. They hate the thought of people thinking they should be at home taking care of the house while men go out and work and bring home the bacon. I'm also hearing about how more and more women are wanting to be strong and leaders. Well, how come if women want all these privileges and everything a man gets, they don't want the hard work that a man has to go through tho. For instance, even though they want everything good that a man gets, they don't want jobs like construction workers. I rarely see female construction workers out on the streets or building tall structures like buildings and houses. They're are very few women that want to help with hard work like that. Women are still known for planting their flowers and garden, while men are doing all the hard work, such as mowing the lawn, shoveling the snow, etc.

Why do women want the respect and power of a man, but not as much work as a man?
Oh honey, talk about issues!

I'll tell you what. You shoot a nine pound baby out of you then talk to me about respect.

I'm thinking all the complaining you're hearing might have something to do with your attitude. I personally know women who do all the things you listed. I also know women who are perfectly content to be stay at home moms, and let me tell you, THAT is hard work when you do it right!

There are many different types of "hard work". Perhaps when you learn that, you'll be able to respect what others have achieved. Good luck, you will need it with that attitude.
Reply:What a silly statement (I'd hardly call it a question). So, in your argument, because in most heterosexual and suburban households because the man mows the lawn, women, as a whole, shouldn't be allowed to hold high positions outside the home? What sense does that make? Do you feel that the male CEO's of companies earned those positions by mowing their lawns? No, they didn't. You are comparing apples to oranges.

And, by the way, my husband has a riding lawn mower. The day I get a riding vacuum cleaner, come talk to me.
Reply:(*laughter*) I don't know where you're from, or what type of women you know, but your conclusion is based on a small and narrow knowledge base.

First, I'm not a construction worker because I make better money as a geek. Second, I know women in the construction fields, and it's tough because men with personal inadequancies make it that way for them..no matter how well they do their jobs.

Third, not only do I plant flowers but I also mow my own lawn, repair my own roof, paint my own house, and until they got too electronic, did my own car repairs.

Lastly, you try being a woman sometime. When I was married, I was not only the primary (and frequently ONLY income), but in addition to my PAID full time job, I also did all laundry, cleaning, cooking, AND car repairs, AND yard work, AND child care. Amazing, when I got rid of him, nothing changed except some whiney man wasn't annoying the crap out of me, and my expenses dropped by 50%.

So, while I appreciate that there are men out there who work hard, there are also women who work hard. Women like me, don't need respect from people like you...we need you to just get out of the way.

Oh - and for the record, I am the one in my neighborhood with all things tool related. Including a toilet auger, a compound laser mitre saw, a mini lathe, air compressor, pressure washer, chain saw, and too many hand tools to list.
Reply:Can we say misogynist?

What would you want a woman to do, go into a job she's not physically able to do and have the men complain or just not apply for the job.

Women work very hard for example YOUR mother or wife has got her hands full dealing with a mental midget like YOU.

Women work harder than men, why, because we have to put up with men and their idiocy! along with raising the kids, running the household and having an outside job and dealing with men who think with this type of mentality. NO man can do these things with the finesse that a woman can.

So, if you are married I will keep your wife held up in prayer and if you're not, PLEASE do some woman a favor and go in the other direction.
Reply:LMAO

Where do you live? The stone ages?

I hold down a full time job working 55-65 hours per week. I come home and take care of all the yard work (mowing, trimming, weeding, planting, shoveling snow, etc...)

I can use almost every tool made. I'm the crew chief of our racing team and can help build an engine with the best of them! I drive the hauler and can back up a 37 foot race trailer into a 15 foot wide space -- can YOU?

I own my own chain saw and can hold my own felling some pretty good sized trees.I can weld a pretty straight line, unplug a toilet, hang shelves, install a garage door opener and fix just about anything else around the house that you think only men can do!

By the way, I also have a 2nd degree black belt and have kickboxed competetively for the past 5 years. I'm in my 40s, wear a size 6 and look great in a dress too!

Now, just how strong did you say YOU are?

I'm doing that now. Between my heart drugs, the diabetes meds, the two diuretics and the anti-depressant that was orignally prescrobed for smoking cessation, there's not a lot of room for electives there.

But, hell, Laid back and physical is how I've always lived, so I'm not about to change.
Reply:Probably not. Things have changed since then, particularly with respect to STD's.
Reply:Sounds like some communist utopia...no thanks...btw I'd have to be strung out to live that way!
Reply:i do the above everyday. I'm an asshole to the insecure pertentiously harmful people....love the ones who are open minded and confident enough to be themselves and appreciate everything and everyone around them.

Reply:I don't think so. Drugs were a part of this life style. Besides, the 60's are gone now and it wouldn't work again. The people who made it happen have all gone to "hippie heaven". Sorry honey, Flower power didn't work.

Doesnt oil come from flowers? solar energy please power my mobile phone...not even?

To run a mobile phone off solar power would require you to wear a sheet of solar collection cells on your head and you'd either be bumping into or cutting the people around you with it. . The phones chew up quite a bit of power when they transmit.

Doesnt oil come from flowers? solar energy please power my mobile phone...not even?
Oil does not come from flowers. Honey bees come from flowers. I saw it myself.
Reply:Go to www.solio.com This is a magnificent gadget that solar powers your ipod, cell phone, camera, pda and other small electronics. I'm about to gather an order from all my friends to purchase a few.

Good luck!
Reply:Solar power works for calculators, so why not mobile phones. It would also be possible to store the solar energy in a battery. Burning flowers to generate power would also release as much or pollution as burning oil, but you'd need a lot more flowers.

the following are the meanings of the dreams

DREAM

An atmosphere of fantasy or a fairytale-like quality to your dream is a good omen for your current endeavors.

CASTLE

If the castle was in good condition, it means you will have a comfortable life and get to travel to interesting locales. But if the castle was in ruins, beware. You are being warned to control either your temper or your passion. You should know which one applies.

FLOWER

Beautiful, fresh flowers, whether growing or cut, are a wonderful omen for personal happiness. If the flowers were dead or wilted, guard against overconfidence. Artificial flowers mean you are being pressured to compromise your principles. Stick to your guns. Wild flowers are a prediction of an exciting adventure.

RED

A mixture of vivid colors signifies coming success. Individual colors hold their own meanings. Blue indicates an end to your worries, possibly with help from someone else. Black is a bad omen unless you were dreaming of a funeral. In that case, it means success - particularly in your love life. Brown stands for luck with money. Bright red is a warning to watch your temper while deep red means you'll be getting good news. Green predicts travel or news from far away. Gray means you'll be "on hold" for awhile. Lavender or mauve predicts a passing sadness. Orange means your plans will be delayed. Pink predicts success beyond your expectations. Purple forecasts a happy upswing in your social life. Yellow predicts you'll have to take a couple steps back before you can move forward. And white promises success in all endeavors.

RUBY

Dream of rubies and you dream of passionate romantic love. (See also Jewelry, Colors.)

GUARD

If you were defending someone else, it means your trust is well placed. If you were the one requiring a defense, don't make any big decisions or force any issues right now. Someone you count on for support may not be there for you.

LOOK

In general, searching for some unknown object or purpose is simply your subconscious informing your conscience that you are wasting your time on meaningless relationships or activities. Take it as a wake-up call.

STEAL

A dream in which you, or anyone, commits embezzlement is an indication that you are harboring a complex problem or secret fear. It would be wise to talk to someone about it.

RUB

To dream of rubbing some object foretells wealth and success in business. (See also Massage.)

POWER

If there was a feeling of an outside influence during your dream, take it as a warning of a plot against you. Pay attention and you can figure out who's behind it.

TIME

Seeing or hearing a clock is a straightforward message. Stop wasting time. Winding a clock means you're on the verge of a happy love affair.

WILL

Dreaming of drawing up your will is a contrary omen meaning you don't need to worry about your health. If you dreamt of someone else's will, it's a prediction of family problems that will soon come to light.

FALL

If you dream of autumn during any other season , it's a sign that friendly forces are around you even though you don't expect it.

METER

Measuring your body is an omen of increasing wealth. Happy times are predicted by measuring the temperature. Measure ingredients and you need to be extra careful for awhile.

MONSTER

If this dream isn't caused by indigestion, it's coming from your guilty conscience. If you can, rectify some past wrong. Otherwise, it wouldn't hurt to talk about it.

HUNT

This is an obstacle dream. Success in the hunt indicates success in sorting out your problems. If the hunt was not successful, you will have to struggle for a while longer.

TAKE

This usually a positive omen. Dreaming of your own abduction is a prediction of victory over opposing forces, whether in business or in your social life. If you dream that someone else is being abducted, you will receive surprising news.
Reply:This interpretation comes from a very specific point of view...

The castle represents your body.

The red flower represents the Root Chakra. The Red Flower is indeed a precious gem from a spiritual point of view.

The power of the red ruby is called "kundalini". This is a life force, trapped in the human body. If released in a controlled manner, it leads to spiritual awakening and enlightenment. If released in an uncontrolled manner, the result is generally chaos.

Kundalini energy is often represented as a snake or "serpent fire". This energy force is symbolized by your dream monster.

Your archetypal dream shows an unconscious awareness of these things. Fortunately for you, the monster is protecting the release of your kundalini energy, thus protecting you from chaos.

You remember the dream after all of these years because it was so mysterious and powerful for you. You instinctively recognized it as an unusual and significant dream.
Reply:The chaos you mentioned is you causing problems to keep people away. The house (castle) in a dream is almost always representing your body, as the flower red ruby is kept inside, it is your heart. Every time someone takes a piece of your heart your subconscious (the monster) decides to hunt that person down %26amp; take it back.

Do you tend to push people who get close to you away?

Because of the fear of being hurt? That is the impression I am getting.
Reply:Your dream is awash in powerful archetypal symbolism. Your red ruby flower reminds me of Aphrodite, (aka Ishtar) a powerful, beautiful, desirable and dangerous goddess. You may gain some insight by reading the work of Carl Jung, a famous psychoanalyst. Begin with his autobiography: "Memories, Dreams, and Reflections." According to Jung, we all share a

"collective unconscious," and the archetypal symbols sometimes found in our dreams are the metaphors by which this unconsciousness connects with us individually.

P.S. I like Jon C.'s advice, but you need to learn how to spell and to construct sentences and paragraphs more coherently. Reading (a lot) will help you in this.

I need to know which one i put as x and y to make a line graph?

the flower power has offered to sell its roses for a fixed down payment of $60 and an addition charge of $.50 per stem.

tell me if i am right but is the # of roses should be in the x place and the price of the roses should be in the y place?

I need to know which one i put as x and y to make a line graph?
You are correct. The number of flowers is the independent variable, which is placed on the x-axis. The price is dependent on the number purchased, so it goes on the y-axis.
Reply:I think that the number of roses should be on the y (or bottom, horizontal part of the graph. The x (vertical) graph in this case should begin with the $60 as a straight line across the graph and the different prices related to a spot on the graph for the various number of roses. At least that is what I would do. But, it is not set in stone, if you want to be creative.
Reply:your right because the x axes is the independent variable and the y axes is the dependent variable.
Reply:correct
Reply:Not to confuse you, but you can either make x or y. your formula can be y = $.50x + $60 where x is the number of roses and y is the total dollars spent. OR your formula could be y = (x-60)/.5 or y = 2x-120 where x %26gt;= $60 and y is the number of roses.
Reply:u r rite
Reply:You are absolutely right. # of roses is the independent variable and as such goes on the x-axis
Reply:Yes. Sounds right. One rose would cost $60.50? Two roses would be $61.00? Is that right? A dozen would be $66.00.
Reply:You're right.
Reply:Correct ‼
Reply:You're right! :)
Reply:Yes. So your y axis starts at $60, and then rises by 50c per stem (x axis).

Whats your favorite flower?

I love Casablanca lillies and bluebonnets and orchids and roses are always beautiful though sometimes overused and daisies. Daisies are such a happy flower and they have the power to instantly cheer me up.

Whats your favorite flower?
Ooh, what do Casablanca lillies look like? They sound beautiful. My absolute favorite flower is the gardenia. My grandmother had a huge bush of them in her amazing garden. Good looks easy and attracting nature does it for me. So far nobody has mentioned attracting nature. I hate anything that needs staking. My garden is so much easier since I got rid of all the plants that need staking. I will keep plants that if cut back early in the growing season will grow bushy and sturdy. I find plants flopping over is unattractive. My favorite shade plant is purple turtlehead. Attractive all year even in the winter when you just see the stalks of the dead plants.
Reply:right now when i walk out my front door i would have to say honeysuckle.. they are growing wild along our fence and they smell heavenly... then it would have to be a daisy.. they do cheer you up, plus they are an inexpensive way to boost people for no reason at all.. good question and now heres a star for you!

If your tank is cycled, and water parameters stable, it should be okay to add it. A ricordea should do okay under PC lighting as well, just make sure it's in an area of low flow.

How do I translate Shakespeare into modern language?

A Midsummer Night's Dream Act 2, Scene 1;

Oberon desribes the magical flower %26amp; its powers:

That very time I saw (but thou couldst not),

Flying between the cold moon and the earth,

Cupid all armed. A cetain aim he took

At a fair vestal throned by [the] west,

And loosed his lofe-shaft smartly from his bow

As it should pierce a hundred thousand hearts.

But I might see young Cupid's fiery shaft

Quenched in the chaste beams of the wat'ry moon,

And the imperial vot-ress passed on

In maiden meditation, fancy-free.

Yet marked I where the bolt of Cupid fell.

It fell upon a little western flower,

Before, milk-white, now purple with love's wound,

And maidens call it "love-in-idleness."

Fetch me that flower; the herb I showed thee once

The juice of it on sleeping eyelids laid

Will make or man or woman madly dote

Upon the next live creature that it sees

Fretch me this herb, and be thou here again

Ere the leviathan can swim league.

How do I translate Shakespeare into modern language?
That same night, I saw Cupid flying from the moon to the earth, with all of his arrows ready. (You couldn't see him, but I could.) He took aim at a beautiful young virgin who was sitting on a throne in the western part of the world, and he shot his arrow of love well enough to have pierced a hundred thousand hearts. But I could see that Cupid's fiery arrow was put out by watery, virginal moonbeams, so the royal virgin continued her virginal thoughts without being interrupted by thoughts of love. But I paid attention to where Cupid's arrow fell. It fell on a little western flower, which used to be white as milk but now has turned purple from being wounded by the arrow of love. Young girls call it “love-in-idleness.” Bring me that flower. I showed it to you once. If its juice is put on someone's eyelids while they're asleep, that person will fall in love with the next living creature he or she sees. Bring me this plant, and get back here before the sea monster has time to swim three miles.

If you have anymore trouble go to sparknotes.com they have books called " No fear Shakespeare" this gives you the original text and the modern English text.

Thank You to everybody who experienced the Hippie Life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

I'd like to thank you all for encouraging peace and tolerance at a time when it was badly needed. And unfortunately it is needed today, but we (the youth) are apathetic and lazy. I adore all of you who lived and learned the Flower Power movement.

Thank You to everybody who experienced the Hippie Life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
That's sweet, but don't JUST idealize the past -- do something to improve the future.

If you think your generation is "apathetic and lazy", do something to mobilize it.

There's a VERY important election coming up, maybe you could work on getting some of your peers to the polls...
Reply:The history is pretty much repeating itself. Vietnam and Iraq are very similar wars...unfortunately, like you said, teenagers today, for the exception of a few, do anything. When I listened to too much John Lennon and went protesting, all my friends chickened out. I can't even figure out why people don't stand up for what they believe in...sad...and most just wear peace shirts, but don't do anything to bring peace.

I think that they need to show body bags on TV again, like during Vietnam war, so people could realise what is happening, and maybe get off their asses and fight the man.
Reply:the youth today are boligerant.but you are right they need to take a stand on our government.not saying its all bad just the money grabbing

Whats up with the trippy taxis in NYC?

Recently they're all hippy-ed out. Some flower power stuff. What is this project about? I assume its an art project. Or possibly an ad campaign for something.

Any info?

Reply:Gee, I wish all the taxi's here in Las Vegas were like that (do they come with the laid back attitude?) cause they are all mean as hell and rather run over a rain puddle and splash you with it instead of actually picking you up.

Is it too late to ask for peace?

Does the Anti-War movement of the 60's and the Pro-peace rallies of the Hippie/Flower power generation still has relevancy in today's world? Other than the fact that the message of peace might have a different meaning today? Should we have paid more attention to the calls for peace then and apply it to today's world? Is it so hard to achieve peace or is it easier for governments to make war despite the protests from their citizens?

Is it too late to ask for peace?
Sadly, I kind of think it's too late. The world's become such a right wing, capitalistic place. People are motivated by money, success, and their own personal gain, peace doesn't even come into the equation. A lot of people couldn't care less about the war going on in other parts of the world they're too busy thinking about how their life is going. I really wish the flower power days would come back (not that I was around to witness them), but I think I'm just looking through my rose coloured glasses there.
Reply:i'm afraid it is looking grim and VERY complicated now....Even changing the countrys leaders might not make a difference at this point.

Its an oil war- and the world will fight over the last few drops. When I was in school, they used to say we had enough oil for another 50 years. well, that was 20 yrs ago, so the day nears.
Reply:Never too late. go ahead.
Reply:Peaceful people are peaceful. We need to fight for peace against the warmongers. There's a conundrum for you.

Check with your local pharmacist/chemist; most such places in the U.S. have it, so I would certain give it a try. A compounding pharmacy is your best bet.

Reply:Flower power was a slogan used by hippies (aka Flower Children) during the late 1960s and early 1970s as a symbol of the non-violence ideology. It is rooted in opposition to the Vietnam War. They burned their draft cards and created a hippy culture. They dressed in flowery clothing and wore flowers in their hair. The expression is said to have been coined by the US poet Allen Ginsberg in 1965. It has since been used in many places when referring to the sixties, including countless films, TV programs and documentaries, and the installer for Israel's chat program ICQ.

The "meeting place" for the Flower Power movement was based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in a club called Paradiso. The hippies chose this club because of the name paradiso, which reminded them of a peaceful place, paradise. Artists such as Yoko Ono have since been performing there on occasional visits. Nowadays it is found next to a Hard Rock Cafe and is a centre of music for all groups of people, including followers of movements such as the Rastafari movement.

Flower Power also celebrated symbolic action such as giving flowers to policemen and putting flowers into the barrels of ROTC rifles.

Can a person actually tap into the other 90% brain power and if so, how,how muc a nature vs nurture question?

I was wondering if an average person, better yet, can a mentally challenged person,if he/she is truly determined to and actually dedicates him/herself to develop his/her mind to the fullest? I mean, I know about the flowers for Algernon story, wouldn't it be great if each of us can tap into the other 90% of our brain power like Einstein did? I also know it's up to the individual person's wishes, inspirations, attitudes, outlook, desires, ambitions, how a person deals with his/her past failures and successes, etc., steadfast, unwavering dermination to succeed and do whatever it takes to improve him/herself, but is this lofty and noble goal really realistic today with all its distractions and responsibilities? But, really, who has the time and how much energy would a person need to have in order to reach or uplift his mental capacities? Or does that depends on which level of mental capacities that a person is at now. Or does it depend on having a really good teacher, mentor, etc? Obviously, money and the environment plays a big part, but if a person does not have either, how is a person supposed to go about it, if that is what a person does, indeed, really would like to achieve such as reading doing some of the things and exercises in Thought-Force in Business and Everyday Life by William, Walker Atkinson, Think and Grow Rich, may be some melvin Powers Clasic books, NLP books, etc,. And lastly, if a person wans;t really born with a great mind, does a person have to continuously practice to develop his/her mind? Thank you

Can a person actually tap into the other 90% brain power and if so, how,how muc a nature vs nurture question?
That humans only use 10% of their brain power is only a myth. A person can learn to think on a higher level but only though practice. Practice however can only do so much, some people are born with extraordinary minds and others are born with below average mental facilities. In the end, as with most things the single most important factor is determination. This being the case remember that there is no 90% waiting to be unlocked, only further refinement of what you already possess. You are not going to become a world class biologist if you weren't born one but that doesn't mean that you can't become more successful than someone who was.

Why the difference is in muscular power between men and women?

In olden days the women were using only house wide works plus agriculture such as paddy field, cleaning of flowers, etc. It is due to creation of God.

Why the difference is in muscular power between men and women?
It is the same until the female body goes thru puberty and is ready to have children. For that she needs wider hips, more bodyfat, plump breasts intead of pecs etc. This is why the Olympic woman gymnasts are so young compared to the men. The men are in college and the women are in high school.
Reply:Men think and look at the world different from women, they have different left and right brain structure/function, they have a different anatomy (more musculature and heavier bone structure) as well as on a hormonal basis. In theory men are a different species from women. Men perform differently in muscle power with a different sporting outcome. I firmly believe that we are "what is found or what is left in our body" including what we believe. A good elimination is the basis of a happy body. All this expresses itself on all physical, emotional and spiritual levels. Think about this: If there is a problem, on whatever level, it will hold you back until that problem is resolved. Awareness allows change.

Women complement the emotional and spiritual side of our male being. Being gay is not a disease; those relationships can also balance the male role in relationships.

A man's body has a larger musculature and bone structure that requires specific nutrition. Same as you would not put diesel in your petrol driven car. A man needs more energy to run and to maintain the body structures because of bone structure and larger muscle mass. So the basic composition of the three macro-components (carbohydrates-protein-fats) of our diet has to be different from women and children. Calorie wise, men need at least 40 percent carbohydrates, 30 percent fats/oils and not more than 40 percent protein. While younger women may need a lower protein percentage (down to 20 percent, thereby increasing the carbohydrates to 50%) for better endorphin balance. However, in weight loss programs men and women best use the same macro-components percentages.

Self-handicapping is defined as an individual's attempt to reduce a threat to esteem by actively seeking or creating factors that interfere with performance as a causal explanation for failure

(Edward Hirt

February 10, 2003)

women have less tolerance for self-handicapping by men or women. They routinely made more negative evaluations of the self-handicapping targets and were less willing than men to excuse self-handicapping even when alternative explanations for effort withdrawal, such as peer pressure, were viable

Men were far more lenient in their attributions of self-handicapping targets than were women and less likely to ascribe negative motivations to individuals who engage in self-handicapping behavior. Women, however, have little respect for individuals who lack motivation and fail to put forth the effort in important performance settings,"
Reply:Women's bodies are designed to be impregnated, give birth and nurse young. Muscular power suffers as a result. Women of the same weight, height, and relative fitness only have 52% of a man's upper body strength on average, and only 66% of a man's lower body strength.

Women are emotional and sensual, not strong.
Reply:God created woman out of man, thus she is the physically weaker sex and need protection from man. I believe both man %26amp; woman started off as farmers, tilling and planting with the man doing the more laborious work and woman the easier ones. Mankind in the beginning were vegetarians as there were abundance of fruits and vegatables and no need to kill animals for food.

?????.............Tower of Power,,,,,,, or?

Flower Power............ ?????

?????.............Tower of Power,,,,,,, or?
Isn't that the name of a band from the 70's or 80's? Anyways, I prefer Flower Power because the world needs to get along or the world may take us through entropy. We need to start utilizing Alternative Energy now and researching betters ways. Some European countries have been doing it for years. We need to stop being so uncivilized. We need to make America a country that the world will respect again. It's just soooo hard when innocent American's and Iraqi's are getting killed, etc. I like Run-DMC'S 1980's Hip-Hop song "Wake Up". I will only type the first lyrics "When I woke up this morning and got out of bed, I had some really fresh thoughts going through my head. They were the thoughts that came from a wonderful dream. It was a vision of the World working as a team. It was a dream! (Wake Up). God Bless America? God Bless the World! I never heard a politician say that. Promote Peace!

Reply:I don't really understand the question, and this may be one you just asked goofing around...but Tower of Power is a musical group composed of a famous horn section, and has had various lead singers over the years, and still exist. Flower power is an expression from the 60's associated with hippies and the peace movement.

Why are the eyes the flower petals of our bodies?

What is so special about the eye? Even dogs, cats, and other animals look people in the eye. Why not our elbows or knees? Why does the eye invoke such emotion in ourselves and power to motivate others to action?

Why are the eyes the flower petals of our bodies?
Eyes are the windows of the mind. Through our eyes we look outside our skull, and apparently in the process we let something of ourselves to be seen.

Even anatomically, eyes are parts of the brain that differentiate during the prenatal life, while other sense organs just develop from the tissue around them.
Reply:I think the "eyes" have it.

We look at the eyes to see if and how we are being observed. Animals, including man, needed to know if they were being viewed as prey or not to survive. Some people are better than others at "reading" eyes. They are usually great business people and/or poker players.
Reply:I never heard the flower petals of our bodies. I have heard the mirror to the soul. Haven't you ever looked someone in the eye %26amp; could tell if they were telling the truth?.....If they were good or evil?......I can. Dogs can too. If you stare a dog down, they will become aggressive or run. If you're OK, they know. Why? I can't answer that. They just are.

Why aren't there more public protests on the War in Iraq, such as the ones witnessed during the Vietnam era?

During the 60s and early 70s you had "flower power", "give peace a chance", big rallies in Washington, parades, alot of people trying to get the war to stop. Now during the Iraq war, people seem content on just complaining that its all Bush's fault and leave the politicians to handle the war, if everybody is so unhappy with the war, why isn't there more protests going on?

Why aren't there more public protests on the War in Iraq, such as the ones witnessed during the Vietnam era?
I think this is because there is not as much opposition to this war as there was the Viet Nam war. The opposition to Iraq is smaller, but appears to have a large voice because of the media attention. The media now won't air people in favor of the war. The opposite was true in the 60s.
Reply:I was a genuine flower child in the early '60s at San Francisco. We protested on everything including the war. I still tell the kids today to go out and protest. All seemed to think is not their concern. But seems we are losing our freedom more and more. It is to me when seeing a child crying this time of the year because of no daddy. We also push our amendment right of freedom of express. That is what the movement was about. We did not want to live like the Donna Reed Show. We use to chain ourselves to the city hall doors.
Reply:No leaders of the left. Back in those days the anti war crowd had credible leaders. Now they have whiners like Cindy Shehan and the democrats.
Reply:not the same war and not the same people in Vietnam we were taking over for the French and We didn't lose any one on our own soil as in the war on terrorism I'm

just amazed it didn't start sooner as I think it was 1968 when a bunch of terrorists attacked the Olympics in Germany
Reply:You can bet that if the draft were to come back there would be alot of protest going on. I don't see that happening anytime soon but you never know.

People are so self absorbed today that I seriously doubt they would even stop talking on their cell phones if Osama Bin Laden himself tapped them on the shoulder and stuck a dirty bomb up their as*.

All one has to do is read some of the trash that peple post in this Current Events area to get an idea where some peoples brains are. I mean really there are other catagories that they can post their crap in.

Thanks for letting me rant....I guess the trolls will really come after me now.
Reply:There's more on TV
Reply:From my understanding, a big difference between these two wars is the fact that many of the soldiers who went to vietnam didn't have a chance- they had to go, no choice. The soldiers going to Iraq voluntarily entered the military. And I know from my mom (a flower child herself) and dad (vietnam vet) that this was one of the reasons for protest. Another thing they both talked about was the fact that alot of people felt that we had no business going to vietnam in the first place.
Reply:Where are you protesting we can meet you there.
Reply:No draft is the main reason.
Reply:Yes, exactly! Maybe more people support the war than the media is letting on about. Maybe more people support Bush than we're told.

The reality is no one protests at all except maybe 100 people -- and there are 300 million people in the US!

I think the media paints a picture that is not reality.
Reply:What has always struck me is the lack of songs about reflecting peoples anger about the war! Compared to the number of protest songs that were about relating to Vietnam.
Reply:Those 'hippy' days are long gone. Nowaday, everyone is too self-absorbed in their personal lives to care anymore.

Will this poem make your soul flower?

Soul Flower

Written By Semper Fi 83 8/25/07

I did a double take,

When I saw her bouquet.

For I had never seen such an arrangement of flowers.

Yet there she stood,

In all her grace.

A light flashed,

Across her face,

That was her smile.

She had a joyous sound to her laugh,

And her dress swayed just above her calves,

In the moonlight.

She was like a desert rose,

Blooming through a crack in the asphalt.

Who is responsible for this beauty?

I thought I heard a man say, "It's my fault!"

Yes indeed, yes indeed!

I tried to tame the flavor of chocolate!

My tastebuds threatened a strike.

For no man can be a constant gardener.

No man can claim her power!

She's so unexpressably lovely!

She's a Soul Flower.

Her petals never fall to the ground.

Will this poem make your soul flower?
Okay, first off, I got the reference to chocolate being her skin--some people are just clueless with imagery. However, I do think the image is a bit misplaced, beautiful as it is. The rest of the poem talks about flowers, bouquets, petals, and this reference to a flavor and tastebuds just seems out of place.

But overall, I loved the poem! The images are lovely, and you really get a sense that this is one unique woman who really captured your attention.
Reply:I think it is a great poem.
Reply:Beautiful, but a bit confusing when you threw in the chocolate. I might remove that section and use it to develop another poem. Unless you say I tried to tame her, the flavor of Chocolate...??? still a bit awkward. Love the rest of it.
Reply:I know what you mean by Chocolate.....it's my favorite flava...beautiful.
Reply:This is sensational, wow!!!!. I love the last stanza, brilliant.
Reply:Oooh! that's very creative indeed. I like it so much.
Reply:you must really love your wife my friend. may you both have many more years of happiness. she makes you write beautiful things and she is so lucky to have some one who writes such beautiful things about her.

GOD BLESS YOUR LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER!!!

It's not very often that you find such a love in this cruel, cruel world of ours.
Reply:that's nice. i like it. hope the lady you wrote it for likes it too.
Reply:No, its just a bunch of words thrown together to sound profound and meaningful, but it falls way short.
Reply:I agree with imagesawy, someone thats not really into poetry would write something meaningless like that.
Reply:Sorry but it's stupid.
