Which is your favourite year musically?

Mine is 1967 - Flower Power and lots of lovely tuneful records released.

Which is your favourite year musically?
1966 was the year that rock and roll grew up. The standards established in the fifties and continued through the early days of the British Invasion were blown to pieces in 1966. In '66, the typical guitar/bass/drums line-up was augmented by more exotic instruments like the sitar (played by George Harrison and others) as well as the vast array of instruments Brian Jones integrated into the Stones music that year. It was also the dawn of acid rock with all its vast sonic possibilities as evidenced by, among others, the 13th Floor Elevators, the Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "She Said, She Said", Love's "7 and 7 Is", and Hendrix's earliest recordings such as "Purple Haze" (released in '67 but actually recorded in late '66). Also in 1966, rock lyrics flowered into more than the doggerel love songs that they had previously been. Though Dylan had already demonstrated the possibilities of poetry in rock lyrics, he largely stood alone in that endeavor until '66, when he was joined by other visionary lyricists like the Velvet Underground's Lou Reed and Jim Morrison of the Doors (both of their groups recorded their debut albums in 1966 but didn't release them until 1967). Finally, 1966 was the peak year for garage bands, the quintessential rock and roll phenomenon. All this to me makes '66 a fascinating year in rock history.

Disco/Soul/Funk..... fantastic!!

Commodores/Brothers Johnston/Bee Gees/Atlantic Starr/

Chic , to mention a few.

The bass lines were absolutely great when played very loud.

Ah! , those heady days of disco dancing , boogy-oogy-oggy , 'The Taste of Honey'. There were no binge drinkers either. The music wasn't aggresive , people seemed happier , maybe I'm being nostalgic!!
