Identifying & Writing Satire?

Firstly, I'm having some major homework bother with the literary genre satire. It was recommended for me to read “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde, because that was in relation to what I am doing. But I have to compare it with "Flower Power" by Liza Granville. And the major problem is that I don't know how to identify satire, in order to make this analysis.

Secondly, what I'm asking, is if anyone is kind enough to express their wisdom on either text, preferably both (more importantly “The Importance…”, because it’s so long; what I need is the actual scenes, or lines that express this idea of satire.)

“Flower Power” is unfortunately, virtually unknown, but if anyone has anything to share, preferably not just links on either text, that would be great!

Finally, I would really appreciate some guidelines, if there are any for writing a piece of satire that’s applicable to society either nowadays or 1980’s Britain.
